Chemistry and Biochemistry undergraduates are encouraged to join research labs within or outside the department. There are multiple ways to do this. Students can volunteer their time or take research credits (CHEM or BCHE 241 and 441). There are also several paid research programs available for students:
- Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC): Paid part-time academic year and full-time summer research in biomedical science.
- New Mexico Alliance for Minority Participation (NM-AMP): Paid part-time research in STEM fields.
- Building Research Achievement in Neuroscience (BRAiN): Paid part-time academic year research at NMSU with a summer research project at Colorado University Denver.
- Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI): Paid part-time academic year and full-time summer research in biomedical science.
- New Mexico Space Grant Scholarship: Competitive $5,000 scholarship for STEM majors.
- Biomedical Research Internships: An extensive list of research opportunities for undergraduates, post-baccalaureates and high school students nationwide.
